We liked everything! The house was very comfortable, extremely well equipped, had a lovely garden and outdoor area. Niles was very responsive and the staff were great.

A real 'out of Africa' feel to ironstone cottage!! It was furnished with lovely wooden furniture that was all in good condition, lamps and wall pictures were lovely, and bedding was very comfy. The bathrooms were also very well updated and easy to use.
Proactive management of our booking was good, with clear instructions to find the cottage.

Graaff-Reinet is a gem for anyone who loves history and (well-preserved) historic buildings. Most visitors pass through while heading toward the coast or back to Joburg and drive straight through the centre of town and out the other side - but the best of what this city has to offer is OFF the main road... on the side streets. So many beautifully preserved historic buildings, unexpected coffee shops and galleries, museums and places of interest. Definitely one of South Africa's more charming small towns (for those who would just take a moment to leave the main road and LOOK).

There is a lot to do and see in an around Graaff-Reinet. Unfortunately we could not stay longer than one night. It is a very historical town with beautiful old buildings. The scenery and reserves in the area are stunning.

It's a lovely town with so much history to it.
It's a lovely town with so much history to it. The museums, while needing modernization and some TLC, have some interesting stuff particularly at the military museum. I would have loved to have had the time to visit some of the places where the Brits ambushed Commandant Gideon Scheepers whom they executed after a military court found him guilty of war crimes - they actually had him sit on a chair next to a grave and then the firing squad shot him. Worthy of remembering these guys, (Local African people, Brits and Boers) who found themselves caught up in the first war of liberation against British imperialism. Their sacrifices and keeping their names and the history alive is so important. Then to bring matters more current, a visit to the Robert Sobukwe permanent exhibition is important to help understand the contribution of one of Graaf Reinet's most famous sons.

It is a beautiful little town.
It is a beautiful little town. I was so impressed at how clean the streets are. We will be back and will stay at Cypress Cottage. I forgot to mention that we had a huge breakfast that was made in our cottage just for us.

Most of the historical buildings have been well maintained and painted white. The church is still in excellent condition.
Some modernisation taking place right now in the main street.
SANS parks nature reserve worth a visit with good dry, dirt roads. Valley of desolation view point very good with tarred road to the top followed by a short steep climb. Area can get very hot this time of year Feb 19th 43C.
Initially, I was unimpressed with lady at reception who received me at check-in. She did not introduce herself, did not explain properly how the property/gate/keys work or asked if I needed anything.
Regardless, the room, cleanliness, furniture quality and overall impression of the guesthouse was impeccable! Heleen-the manager, was friendly and a great hostess. I would most definitely recommend De Wingerd to anyone who wants to stay over in Graaff-Reinet. I’ll definitely visit them again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
This is a lovely little gem of a Guesthouse in Graaff-Reinet. My room was big and very comfy, it had everything I needed. The Hostess, Toni, is SO friendly and caring. She went beyond the call of duty- she kept contact with me and guided me with my trip from Bloemfontein. I received a hearty welcome from herself and the room was ready 2 hours before th the time for booking in. Breakfast was served in my room- what a spoil that was! Toni is a lovely person, inside and out... I would highly recommend this Guesthouse!
The host was amazing!
Very detail oriented. We received the local loadshedding schedule right after the booking. As we arrived, the host gave us a tour of the house, which seems to be newly renovated. There also was drinking water and milk prepared in the fridge for us, as well as non-drinking water in case the loadshedding affects the water supply.
If I'm ever traveling though Graaff-Reinet again, hopefully, this place will be available for booking.
Manuella is a great host! From the welcome drink, the cooling towel and all the little extras we felt very special. The pool was very welcoming in the heat. Manuella is so friendly and helpful and contacted me on whatsapp while enroute and also after departure to find out if we were safe. This is a gem in Graaff-Reinet and will definitely return.
Attention to detail ...everything you need to feel at home from insect spray to microwave...the perfect self catering units ...beautiful flower garden and safe parking ...perfect 💖
The location was remote as we like it - off the tar track !!
The quiet and farm life atmosphere was great. Wifi connectivity was good and facilities perfect for what we required.
Great place to stay, great value for money.
Whole apartment for myself, the host was so friendly, wouldn't mind going there again. Such amazing place. Thank you Graaff-Reinet.
Nestled between the mountains and cozy atmosphere, loved the indoor fireplace and sounds of the farm life early in the morning and late afternoon. Lovely cottage
