Pietermaritzburg, once an attractive, clean town, with numerous historic buildings and home to a number of well-established schools, is looking shabby and uncared for.
I have no idea why anyone would want to head there - we were there for a tennis tournament - and couldn't wait to get on our way and back home!

PMB is a traditional city in South Africa.
PMB is a traditional city in South Africa. I stayed there for work, so I did not really drive around and spend time in the city. I enjoyed the Olive & Oil Restaurant at Cascades Life style Centre. PMB is not that big so to get around is easy.

Pietermaritzburg has historic buildings.
Pietermaritzburg has historic buildings. The architecture is varied and interesting. Though the town center is quite busy, as you move further from town it is quiet and laid back. There are newer developments outside but close to town, like Hesketh estate. There is so much potential for further growth and development for the town.

We did not get to explore Pietermaritzburg itself but we did visit the midlands which is conveniently situated nearby. Very beautiful with lots of lovely stops along the way. Highly recommend the midlands meander.

The host was amazing. Extremely helpful. It was like a home away from home. The property was amazing and the pictures don't do it justice. I ended up staying for way longer at the place. If you are ever in Pietermaritzburg and looking for a comfortable and quiet place, do yourself a favour and consider this place. You won't regret it.
There was an mugging attempt in front of the hotel. Could not find parking and had to park on the streets. We were ambushed by 3 men trying to take our luggage. It was a mess outside. Looters everywhere and beggars sitting outside the entrance. Now I see they are trying to debit my card after paying R500 deposit. Please assist
Helga was the perfect host. Thoughtful, discreet and very attentive to all of our needs. I would certainly recommend that everyone stay at Casa Mia if they find themselves in Pietermaritzburg due to its central location, ease of access and quiet neighbourhood.
The hospitality was off the charts. The owner was so friendly and has such a positive energy to him. The room was exceptional and clean. Stayed at alot of BnB and hotel's, but this takes the cake and would definitely return for all future stays.
The venue was easy to get to, centrally located. The room had everything we needed and the boys loved the pool. IT was very clean and neat. Perfect place to stay for Midmar Mile.
Arrived at the gate had an awesome ride in with a golf cart which was amazing the host was friendly and so welcoming. Definitely planing to come back when we're in pmb again.
