Ouarzazate has a very different vibe to many Moroccan cities - maybe because of its heritage of hosting many visiting teams of actors and film makers - exploring downtown is great with the museum of film and the historic Kasbah, with its labyrynth of small rooms and courtyards. Out of town are the Atlas Studios, where you can take a tour of various film sets which have been used, and re-used, for many famous productions. It's also a great base to explore the wider countryside, either eastwards towards the Dades and Todra Gorges, or south towards the desert.

Ouarzazate is a wonderful stop on the way to Murzouga, however it would also be a nice destination. The surrounding desert is beautiful and there are many riads with pools and restaurants perfect for relaxing and unwinding. It was a wonderful place to visit after the frenzied and pushy atmosphere of Marrakesh.

Small city so easy to navigate.
Small city so easy to navigate. Taxi drivers waited for us at out of town attractions. Highlights were quad biking around film sets, hammam spa and eating home cooked food in a Berber village. All arranged by our accommodation.

The city is split into two sections, one where the tourists stay (North - Ouarzazate) and the other is where the locals stay (South - Tabounte)
We loved Ksar Ben Youssef the hotel there, it is in an area where mostly locals stay and there is a good restaurant near it called Cafe Restaurant la Montana where we ate and picked up some shopping from the petrol station shop
We also ate at Nature Food Restaurant and Pizzeria which was very well priced
Travel around Ouarzazate is easy with taxis, they typically charge about 100 Dhs from and to the airport, and about 50 for the inner city stuff (there were 5 of us) I think they charge things like this, 5 Dh + 5 Dh per kilometer per person or something close to that
The touristy area is very clean and built up quite nicely, the locals area is a little more run down but we enjoy to stay close to the locals and see how they live
We had a bad experience at Ecolodge Lile De Ourzazate, although the idea of their place is nice to have an eco friendly place, we found that it was not as advertised in ways which made our stay there unpleasant
Overall our stay in Ouarzazate was good, we visited a place called Ksar Ait Ben Haddou - if you do and its summer make sure you go in the morning or afternoon, because it is very hot around mid day. They also have some studios there and locations where they filmed the movie Gladiator which the locals are very proud of.
If we go back I would like to visit the other areas nearby such as Marzouga 300km away to check out the desert, there is also another area about 200km away which apparantly has nice oasis / lots of palm trees but I cant remember the name

A place with traditional architecture and great historical relevance. The ride to the airport is a short distance. Transport links to Marrakech were easy to locate and local law enforcement very visible and helpful.

The property is amazing. It is located just outside of Ouarzazate, but very easy to find.
The hosts are amazing, sweet, kind and caring.
They provide good tips to make your stay in Ouarzazate a memorable one and provide a level of hospitality that is truly admirable.
The hotel itself is beautifully decorated with paintings, local treasures and much more. The gardens and view of the hotel offer a serenity of peace and calmness.
I would recommend the picturesque Riad Chay to anyone and everyone! 10/10!!!
This is a new hotel and everything looks clean, neat and modern.
The room was big, with a minimalist decoration, quiet and with a beautiful balcony; the view from the balcony was great, lots of nature all around.
I loved the breakfast, a bit different from what we have experienced before in the whole Morocco: the vegetable velouté was extremely delicious - my favorite dish so far!
I was also amazed to find a Japanese toilet in the middle of Morocco - such a nice surprise!
Fantastic boutique Riad! We loved it! So quaint and beautifully appointed. They also do laundry for $5 per load! Gorgeous spacious room. It's a true oasis just out of town. The rose and vegetable gardens are lovely! Breakfast great! Omar and the front desk is such a sweet and helpful guy. Thank you also for the free room upgrade! It was hard to leave this place as we felt so cozy and cared for. We will be back!
Great breakfast and dinner. Made of fresh and local ingridients. Mr Josef the hotel owner looks after all your needs. He is always around talking to guests. I had a problem with my car. Mr Josef took a broken part to the city centre to get it repaired. The best place I have ever been to due to beautiful location and great service. Best example of Moroccan hospitality. I will surely be back on my next trip to Morocco.
Had a very good one night stay at Hotel Rayyan l'Escale. It's more on the basic side when it comes to amenities but that is in line with what you expect when reserving. We had a great view of the valley from our room and it was very quiet. The staff were very helpful and went the extra mile of accommodating us for a slightly early breakfast as we had an early check out. Would happily go back there again.
Great place in the middle of the old Kasbah the room was great ,big and very nice and cozy ,very clean and very good AC I did feel like staying in a family amaizing rooftop and great brealfast I was very happy to stay here .Also they did help me to get a trip to Wadi fint Oasis what was amaizing too. I think honestly it is a amaizing place to stay in Ouarzazate !!
Room: Riad experience with traditional decoration.
Staff: Very friendly staffs at reception who are alway warm, welcome and helpful.
Food: Gastronomic Menu is highly recommended, so many different dishes and probably the best during our trip to Morocco.
Everything! Pierre and Cristelle were super welcoming and very helpful. The location was great, the riad is very well decorated and the rooms are very clean. The pool is very nice and the food is some of the best we had in Morocco.
Everything was amazing. The best combination of authentic and luxury. The price is good, when the service from the staff and the amazing breakfast make it feel like a five star luxury hotel. Would recommend everyone to stay here!
This place is a little gem!!! So beautiful and peaceful. The food was amazing and the staff was fantastic, really an amazing place! It is rare to find a hotel in Morocco with good logistics, this place is one of them!
Griad, clean and quiet, and very welcoming! It's one of the best hospitality we received in Marocco. It is located in 15 minutes walk from the center. Also the bus station and grand-taxi stop is near the hotel.
Meals don't offer a lot of variety, but this is common to most of Morocco hotels (we already stayed in several), but it does have some variety which is ok. Rooms were ok. Beds were comfy. Wi-Fi worked well too.
Hotel is situated in the city centre with easy access to shops and restaurants. ~30 minutes walk from the Ouarzazate airport. Staff was kind but cannot speak English. Room was neat and had a comfortable stay.
The staff are very welcoming, interactive, accommodating, and friendly. Great location, beautiful pool, nice bar, and restaurant. This will be my hotel when going to Ouarzazate. I highly recommend it.
adorable little boutique riad with some recent renovations. While still firmer than I prefer, it did have the most comfortable mattress I have slept on so far in Morocco.
